You can search The Postal Museum online catalogue as much as you like, with no need to register or give us any personal information about yourself.

To view Archive documents at The Postal Museum's Discovery Room, we encourage you to order them in advance and book a day to view them.

You can order documents directly through the online catalogue. You will need to register as a Catalogue Enhanced User. A catalogue enhanced user account lets you do the following extra functions in the online catalogue:

  • Create a wishlist of items to look at later (similar to a 'shopping basket' on an online shop);
  • Save your searches;
  • Use a secure messaging system to contact Postal Museum Discovery Room staff directly;
  • Book a session at the Discovery Room and pre-order documents to view (currently disabled via the online catalogue). Please bring two forms of ID (one with your signature and one with your current address), e.g. a driving licence, on your first visit. You will need these to apply for a User Card, which lets you consult original archival material;
  • Amend and cancel your Discovery Room bookings and orders;
  • Access downloadable content (currently not available).

When you register as a Catalogue Enhanced User, you will get a User ID. To log in to the online catalogue, you can use either your User ID or an email address you provide, along with a password you create. You don't have to provide an email address, but to get the most from the online catalogue we recommend doing so.

If you provide an email address, you will be sent a confirmation email. Click the link in the email to confirm your account and create your password. If you don't provide an email address you will be asked to create a password immediately.

As a Catalogue Enhanced User, the email address you provide will only be used for the following:

  • To send you confirmation emails about your Discovery Room bookings;
  • To reply by email to any queries you send to the Discovery Room team using the catalogue's secure messaging system.

We promise never to share your information with any third party for their own purposes unless required to do so by law. Please see our Privacy Policy for further details about our processing and your rights.
